Abstract

1,213,858. Treating polyester fibre fabrics. ASAHI KASEI KOGYO K.K. 6 March, 1968 [7 March, 1967], No. 10891/68. Heading D1P. Fabrics consisting of or containing at least 65% by weight of polyester fibres are softened by impregnating them with an aqueous solution of at least 5% by weight of an alkali containing at least one water-soluble or waterdispersible polymeric substance which can form a hydrophilic colloid in an aqueous alkaline medium, then exposing them while wet to dry heat at a temperature of from 120‹C to the melting point of the polyester fibres and then rinsing with water to remove solubilized matter. (The alkali may be an alkali metal hydroxide, sulphide, sulphite, phosphate, silicate or carbonate, and the polymeric substance may be gum tragacanth, gum arabic, Karaya gum, locust bean gum, shiraz gum, dextrin, corn starch, crystal gum, British gum, polyvinyl alcohol, carboxymethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose or ethyl cellulose. The solvent for the composition may comprise water alone or in admixture with pyridine or dioxane. Heating, which may be for 5-300 seconds, may be effected using a metal cylinder dryer, a metal cylinder covered with an endless belt, a pin tenter, a clip tenter, a non-touch dryer, a short loop dryer or a hot flue dryer.
