Abstract
Fabrics containing at least 50% by weight of regenerated cellulose are given improved ironing characteristics, so that, after washing and drying, the fabrics need little or no ironing, by immersion in an aqueous caustic soda solution of a strength not less than 5 grams per 100 cc. of solution for not more than 10 seconds fol-lowed immediately by mangling, the strength and temperature of the caustic soda solution and the time of immersion being so adjusted, if necessary, by the addition of an electrolyte, e.g. sodium chloride, that the liquor take-up of the cellulose is within the range of 150 to 175; the fabric is then washed free from caustic soda in open width, dried and then rendered creaseresistant in known manner. "Liquor take-up" is defined as the number of grams of water plus total solutes present in the fabric after mangling per 100 grams of oven-dry cellulose. Creaseresisting processes described in Specifications 449,243 and 562,790, [both in Group IV] may be used. Anionic or non-ionogenic wetting agents may be added to the caustic soda solutions and the fabric may be dyed or printed at any convenient stage, preferably before the treatment described above. Specification 304,900, [Class 15 (ii)], and U.S.A. Specification 1,734,516 also are referred to.
