Abstract

1,213,237. Joint-making packing. DOWTY SEALS Ltd. 2 July, 1969 [5 July, 1968], No. 32187/68. Heading F2B. A gasket comprises a moulded sheet of material 1 having an upstanding sealing rib surrounding an aperture in the gasket and compression-limiting inserts each having a thickness greater than that of the sheet but less than the, overall thickness of the sheet plus the sealing rib. The I.C. engine intake manifold gasket shown is of elastomeric material and has apertures 2 to 5 therein surrounded by sealing ribs 6 to 9 respectively and compression-limiting inserts 10 11 and 12 in the form of metal washers moulded with the sheet 1 and forming bolt holes. The gasket is provided with further sealing ribs 13 to 18 and a sealing rib 22 surrounds each compression-limiting insert.
