Abstract
1,212,392. Mechanical seals. ARTHUR D. LITTLE Inc. 23 Jan., 1968 [23 Jan., 1967], No. 3571/68. Heading F2B. [Also in Division B2] Sealing means 69 for a centrifuge comprises a rigid sealing ring 74 having a part-spherical outer surface and urged into facial sealing contact with a shoulder 63 of a non-rotary effluent tube 56 by an elastomeric sleeve 73 having a central deformable portion 77 and upper and lower portion 75 and 76 frictionally secured to the rotatable centrifuge body 10 and to the ring 74 respectively. The ring 74 may be of carbon, graphite or P.T.F.E. containing graphite and the tube 56 is preferably of aluminium with the shoulder 63 hardened. The body 10 is driven from a flange 26 integral with a core 24 that enters into the body and forms an annular space 90 therewith.
