Abstract
1,212,127. Axial-How fans. WALLACEMURRAY CORP. June 19, 1968, No.29227/68. Heading F1C. In a fan, e.g. for cooling an I.C. engine, having flexible blades 14 which flex to automatically reduce their pitch as the fan speed increases, each blade is folded upon itself along its length to form a fared bead 17 along its leading edge and a reinforced portion 18 by which it is secured to a respective spider arm 12. The portion 18 may comprise two reinforcing layers as shown or only one such layer; in either case the longitudinal edge 21 of the reinforcing layer(s) may be bent outwardly at an acute angle away from the working layer to limit the deflection of the working layer during fan operation. The blade has a stiffening rib 15 which extends longitudinally of the blade along either a curved or rectilinear path. The spider arms 12 may be unevenly spaced about the rotational axis.
