Abstract

1,211,911. Bag filling machine; feeding sheets. POTASSE & ENGRAIS CHIMIQUES. 12 Feb., 1968 [15 Feb., 1967], No. 6748/68. Headings B8C and B8R. A machine picks up empty bags, feeds them between suction grips mounted on two carriages which diverge on moving along horizontal rails arranged to form the branches of a V, thus opening the bags whilst delivering them to below a filling nozzle located above the broader part of the V. The uppermost bag in a magazine 2 is held by suction grips 4 and raised by a pivoted arm 3 into a vertical plane. It is then raised between plates 9, 9<SP>1</SP> carrying suction grippers, by a jack 7 forming part of the arm 3. The plates 9, 9<SP>1</SP> are mounted on carriages 8, 81 which are pulled along rails 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4, by a jack and pulley system 12-15, Fig. 1. The carriages diverge as they progress, thus opening the bag until it is positioned under the filling nozzle 18 which plunges into the open mouth, the bag being held against the nozzle by jacks (21), (22) during filling, Fig. 3 (not shown). The top of the magazine is maintained at a constant level by vertical screw jacks acting on the platform at the base of the magazine and activated by the swing of arm 3. A multiple speed motor is provided to move the platform up or down rapidly, e.g. for reloading.
