Abstract

1,211,433. An automobile lower body. BUDD CO. 2 Feb., 1968 [17 Feb., 1967], No. 5523/68. Heading B7B. An automobile lower body (in which air ducts are formed) which is capable of being fitted with running gear etc. and being driven, before an upper body (not shown) is bolted at 140 thereto, comprises a main floor 20 and a rear floor 32 having tunnels 22, 40 therein, rear wheel arches 128 connected to the rear floor 32 and to rear side sills 124, and front sills 80 each comprising a lower component 82 secured at 90 to the floor 20, an upper component 84 secured at 94 to a dash or firewall panel 26 forming part of the floor 20, and a side component 86 forming part of the front wheel arch and secured by portion 102 to the dash panel 26 and by portion 104 to the floor 20, the part 24 of the floor 20 and the components 82, 84 and 86 forming an open box space 110 extending between side sills 120 and the tunnel 22. Transverse beams 75, 34 and 48, a box-section frame 60, and a front panel 60 are provided, and dash struts 70 are formed by flanges 64 of the dash panel 26, members 66 and 68, and side component extensions 103. Air openings 76 are provided in the beam 75, and an air cowl 72 is secured to the dash struts 70. The upper body is resiliently sealed to the lower body..
