Abstract
1,209,728. Switching systems for consuming devices. SINGER CO. 11 Aug., 1969 [30 Aug., 1968], No. 40053/69. Heading H2H. [Also in Division D1] The energization of a solenoid is controlled by a series-connected thyristor, the supply of gating signals to which is in turn controlled by a second thyristor. In the embodiment described, the solenoid 17 is associated with a loom. Operation of a main handle 10 closes a switch 19 so that the solenoid is connected in series with a thyristor 23 across an A.C. supply S. A capacitor 28 is charged through a diode 27, and gating signals are supplied through resistors 32 and 35, switching the thyristor 23 on, and energizing the solenoid, which, by moving its armature 16, disables a stop-device 11-15. Incorrect operation of the loom results in closure of a switch 39 so that, after a delay due to the presence of a capacitor 37, a second thyristor 29 is gated on. The gating signals for thyristor 23 are now short-circuited, the thyristor blocks, and the resultant de-energization of the solenoid causes the mechanism 11-15 to stop the loom. In particular, the switch 39 may be responsive to a broken warp thread, normal fluctuations during running not causing shut-down of the loom because of the delay caused by the capacitor 37. Failure of the supply, or of the solenoid itself, also causes the stop mechanism to operate.
