Abstract

1,208,218. Laying pipes. J. K. HOARE. 24 July, 1969 [21 Oct., 1968], No. 49765/68. Heading F2P. A method of constructing a culvert end wall in a ditch comprises laying a pipe 2 in the ditch arranging at least one L-shaped support 3, 4, 5 with a horizontal portion 5 lying alongside the pipe building up a wall of precast slabs (6, not shown) 9 and 13 so that an upright portion 4 of the support prevents outward collapse of the wall and filling the ditch behind the wall with soil. The slabs 13 may be tongued and grooved to fit together and the end of the pipe preferably rests on a base-plate 1 which extends beyond the end of the pipe. The slabs 9 and (6) may be recessed to receive the upright 4 of the support and the slabs are preferably made of reinforced concrete.
