Abstract
1,208,130. Double hung sliding windows. G. VARLONGA. 14 Dec., 1967 [15 Dec., 1966], No. 56962/67 Heading E1J. In a double hung window each jamb of the frame is formed by two releasably joined members, viz a channel section member 2 and a T-section member 27, 28 with the base of the T having catches 28 which spring behind ribs 26 on the member 2, to form a hollow space 29 to accommodate balance weights and pulley block 31 and two parallel grooves 30 in which the sashes slide and the rails 4 of each sash are secured to the stiles 27 by means of locking plates 45 inserted in flanges on the rails and secured to blocks 40 which slide in the appropriate groove 30 and prevent metalto-metal contact between the sashes and frame. Strip seals 33 are provided on the sash between sash and frame. For counter weighted sashes the weights move in spaces 29 supported by a rope &c 62 which passes under a pulley attached to said counterweights and then through a double pulley block (10 Fig. 2 not shown) located, in the head of the frame. The sashes may counterbalance each other the connecting cable passing through a single pulley block 31.
