Abstract

1,204,648. Semi-buoyant pipes. A. P. PEDRICK. 3 Sept., 1969, No. 43730/69. Heading F2P. A semi-buoyant pipe for conveying matter or people between land masses below the surface of a river, sea, or the like, comprises an inner member 10 and an outer coaxial member 20 which is lined with rubber, the space between being filled with air at a pressure greater than the outer hydrostatic pressure, the whole being maintained at the required depth by cables attached to floats 4 above and anchors 5 below. These anchors may be of the type disclosed in Specification 1,080,189. As shown provision is made for the passage of road and rail vehicles and pedestrians. In another embodiment (Fig. 8, not shown) a pipe for the conveyance of fluids has axial pumps for the fluid, and the compressed air is provided by windmill driven units on the surface.
