Abstract

1,203,946. Explosive compositions. ASAHI KASEI KOGYO K.K. 7 Sept., 1967 [7 Sept., 1966], No. 40926/67. Heading C1D. [Also in Division C3] An explosive composition comprisss a capsensitive organic nitrate or nitramine high explosive and a thermoplastic elastomeric block copolymer binding agent comprising segments of a conjugated diolefin with 4 to 6 carbon atoms and segments of a monovinyl aromatic hydrocarbon (see Division C3). The high explosive may be PETN, RDX, HMX or tetryl. The composition may also include an oxidizing agent e.g. potassium chlorate, potassium or ammonium perchlorate, potassium or barium nitrate, or an oxide of Zn, Ti, Cr, Si, Pb or Fe. To assist processing of the explosive compositions, the following may be added: polypropylene glycol, solid paraffin, polyethylene, or naphthenic, aromatic, or paraffinic hydrocarbons. In examples the compositions include PETN, Pb 3 O 4 , and block copolymers prepared from styrene, 1,2-butadiene, isoprene, and divinyl benzene. The explosive composition may be used in sheet form for the working of metals; it may also be used as the explosive in coated detonating fuzes.
