Drying-stoves. - Apparatus for use in drying fruit, vegetables, herbs, seeds and other materials comprises an upper chamber containing a number of superimposed trays 1, Figs. 1 and 2, and a lower chamber separated by an upwardly-inclined baffle-plate 14 disposed above an oil, gas, or electric heating-device 2 contained in the lower chamber, an adjustable inlet 15 for cold air to the lower chamber, and inclined baffle-plates 12 arranged one between each tray. The hot air from the burner chamber passes under, through, and over the trays in its passage to the outlet 16. The inclined baffles 12 may be of different lengths, the uppermost one 13 being the longest and the lowermost 14 the shortest. The casing 4 containing the trays is fitted with a hinged door 5, and the burner is supported on a narrow hinged or swing door 6. The main door 5 may be made in vertically-arranged sections independently hinged to the casing 4, or it may be replaced by a sliding counterweighted door. The trays may comprise a wooden framework 8 on the lower face of which is secured a piece 9 of wire-gauze, the upper face of the framework having metal strips 10 on opposite sides to rest on the battens 3 in the casing 4. In a modification, Fig. 6, the casing 4 is of wood, and the baffle-plates are pivotally mounted at one end on cross-pieces 18, the other ends being supported in notches 19 in uprights 20 which may be adjustable to vary the inclination of the baffles.
