1,198,336. Mixing apparatus. G. PAPENMEIER. 25 July, 1968 [26 July, 1967], No. 35447/68. Heading B1C. A batch or continuous discharge mixer has a rotatable container 1 with inclined rotational axis and a rotatable mixing worm 10 therein the axis of which is fixed but displaced from that of the container; the worm may be flexible and in contact with the container wall to act as a scraper. The discharge outlet 13 is closed by a pneumatically axially movable piston 11 in which the worm shaft is journalled coaxially; for discharge the sense of rotation of the worm is reversed. Both the wonm and the container may be driven through steplessly variable gearing. For continuous discharge operation the outlet 13 is partly opened, material is intermittently or continuously fed to the container and the worm is rotated in the mixing direction. There may be more than one mixing worm.
