Abstract

1,197,198. Plant propagators. O. MELVOLD and L. F. KOXVOLD [trading as ME-KOX INDUSTRI, MELVOLD & KOXVOLD]. 20 Dec., 1967 [21 Dec., 1966], No. 57810/67. Heading A1E. [Also in Division B8] Plants are propagated in a device including a strip of foil material, e.g. plastics, formed into a plurality of separable pockets 2, each pocket containing at least one compressed briquette of plant growth material 1, which briquettes are swelled by the addition of water to fill the pockets. A seed is then sowed in the moist growth medium and is allowed to germinate and grow into a plant of a size suitable for planting out. Each pocket has an opening at the bottom for water to enter and drain from the growth medium. In Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) two briquettes are disposed in each pocket and a side wall of each of the pockets is provided with drainage holes. When the plants are of a suitable size they are mechanically removed from the pockets together with the growth medium, and planted into the ground.
