Abstract
1,196,770. Window stay with slidable locking plate. L. W. POPLE. 29 Jan., 1969 [31 Oct., 1967], No. 49503/67. Heading E2F. A window stay fitting comprises a stay having a main bar 1 and a slidable locking plate 3 carried by the main bar 1, the bar 1 having spaced holes 1a and the locking plate 3 having openings 4, the stay also having a key-operable lock 7; and at least one pin element 9 having a pin 10 receivable into any one of the holes 1a and a coincident opening 4 when the looking plate 3 is in a normal position, at least one of the openings 4 and the pin 10 having co-operating formations whereby the locking plate 3 and pin 10 will interlock by slidably displacing the locking plate to prevent lifting of the stay off the pin 10, the lock 7 being operable to secure the locking plate 3 in the displaced position and also to restore it to the normal position. In one embodiment, the main bar 1 is of inverted channel section with inwardly directed bottom flanges and the looking bar 3 has key-hole slots 4. The look 7 incorporates a bolt 8 which may be thrown inward or outward and is secured to the bar 3 to impart longitudinal sliding movement thereto. The pin 10 has a constriction at a point intermediate its ends which will interlock with the narrow portion of a key-hole slot 4 when the locking bar 3 is thrown inward, retraction of the bar 3 being necessary to align the circular portion of the slot 4 with the hole la to allow raising of the stay from the pin. In a modification (Fig. 5) in which the key-hole slots 4 are reversed, the locking bar 3 has a projection 13 manually operable in an outward direction to allow a stem extension 3b to engage with a lock plunger 7a to secure the stay, a helical compression spring 12 being provided to return the bar 3 when the lock 7 is operated.
