Abstract

1,196,481. Hammers. THOR HAMMER CO. Ltd. 28 March, 1968 [21 Feb., 1967; 30 May, 1967; 19 Oct., 1967], Nos. 8078/67, 24823/67 and 47625/67. Heading B4C. A hammer comprises a tubular head 10 in which a removable insert 12 is mounted, a replaceable striking face 14 being removably attached to the insert. The head 10 may be moulded integrally with a handle and formed from a plastics material or a light metal alloy. The insert may be formed from a plastics material or of metal and be solid as shown with threaded holes 13 for screwed bosses 15 formed on the striking faces 14 which may be of plastics material or metal. The insert may be tubular and filled with metal shot. An end surface 18 of the insert may be grooved so that after initial use of the hammer the relatively soft material of the striking face flows into the grooves thereby to lock the face against unscrewing.
