Abstract
1,195,298. Cooling granular material. TITAN G.m.b.H. 21 Dec., 1967 [23 Dec., 1966], No. 58224/67. Heading F4U. In apparatus for cooling solid particulate material the material is fed by a screw conveyer 13 into a vertical cooling chamber 10 in which it is fluidized by a gas from a lower plenum chamber 16 passing through a gas distributer plate 17 having upstanding hollow ridges with apertures in vertical side walls 21 so that the gas is initially introduced into the chamber with a horizontal component of motion and at sufficient velocity to fluidize the particles. Agitating means 24 formed of a relatively slow moving sweep 25 is mounted so as to extend into the fluidized bed, from the lower end of which the cooled particles pass into a level control chamber 11 separated from the cooling chamber by a divider 28 and comprising an upper zone 29, an air distributer plate 17<SP>1</SP> which may be coextensive with the plate 17, and air plenum 16<SP>1</SP> joined to the plenum 16 and an agitator 32. The cooled material is removed from the levelling chamber by a manually-operated gate valve 36 into a discharge duct 12. Air jets from pipes 35 may assist flow of material from the fluidized bed into the chamber 11.
