Abstract
1,194,803. Expanding pulley gear. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE TRANSMISSIONS. 18 Jan., 1968 [18 Jan., 1967], No. 2864/68. Heading F2D. In an expanding V-belt pulley having a flange 2 fast with a hub 1 on which is slidably keyed at 5 a flange 3 axially adjusted relative to the fixed flange 2 by a nut 8 threaded on a screw 6, a cylindrical hood 13 fast with the screw 6 covers the nut 8 to protect the control system and is split (Fig. 2) whereby transverse screws 14 may be tightened to lock the nut 8 in any adjusted position of the pulley. As shown, the screw 6 is fixed rotationally and axially and the nut 8 turned thereon by a hand wheel 8, the nut 8 and screw 6 being axially secured to the slidable flange 3 and hub 1 respectively by bearings 10, 11 having oil retaining dust excluding seals 15, 16. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the screw 6 is axially fixed as before but, together with the hood 13, is rotationally connected with a sprocket wheel (20) or a hand wheel, the nut, as before, being axially connected by the bearing 10 to the slidable flange 3 but locked against rotation by a rod (21) connecting the nut to any fixed part, the rod (21) being articulated each end by swivel joints (22) which enable it to accommodate axial movements of the nut 8. The fixed flange 2 is secured to the hub 1 and the bearings 10, 11 secured in their housings by the interposition of a film of hardened plastics material offering a good resistance to shear and permitting manufacture of the bearings with a wide tolerance of adjustment.
