Abstract

1,223,828. Shaft couplings. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 2 Oct., 1969 [4 Oct., 19681, No. 48412/69. Heading F2U. In a shaft coupling the end 6 of one shaft 4 is of V-section so as to be engageable with a corresponding V-groove in the other shaft end 5 by relative radial or transverse movement alone, the shaft ends being held together by a strap 11 secured by screws 10 in the shaft 5. Alternatively they may be held by an encircling ring with a screw bearing against the shaft end 6. As shown, the coupling is associated with a Hooke's type universal joint 2 in a vehicle steering shaft.
