Abstract
1,194,795. Cooling moulds. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. 14 Feb., 1968 [29 March, 1967], No. 7318/68. Heading B3F. A mould comprises side blocks 23 and a plurality of inner blocks 10, 12, 14 which define a mould cavity 17. The side blocks are provided with a number of bores 22 which contain slotted tubes 24. A coolant, preferably water, is pumped from a pipe 26 up the tubes 24 and through slots 34 to spray towards the side 16 of the side block 23. The blocks are preferably graphite and the side blocks 23 reversible, so that after the side 16 is worn by casting, the opposing surface can be used to form part of the mould cavity. The side blocks are held in a flask 20 by metal struts 18. After casting in the mould the spray is commenced and continued until the temperature of the mould falls to 300‹ to 700‹ F.
