Abstract

1,193,880. Clamps. NORD-AVIATION SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. 6 July, 1967 [8 July, 1966], No. 31277/67. Heading E2B. A sheet metal clamp for clamping metal sheets 3, 4 together comprises a central rod 10, having a threaded portion at one of its ends and an axial recessed portion at its other end providing a shoulder 13, a nut 14 screwed on to the threaded portion and a shrouding 12 disposed on the other portion so as to project on the opposite side of the rod from the recess, and a series of dished metal washers 18 disposed surrounding the rod between the shrouding and the nut, the shrouding being partially surrounded by a body 9 between which and the shoulder the sheets are clamped in use. The clamp is stated to be suitable for clamping together plates between which is a layer of a sealing compound the force provided by the spring being sufficient to cause the sealing compound to flow away from the rivet holes before the rivets are applied.
