Abstract
1,193,402. Tube expanders. W. RAST. 27 May, 1968, No. 25352/68. Heading B3J. A tube expander comprises a body 1 having a fixed arm 11 and a movable arm 5 with means including a cam 4 for operating a tapered pin 2 to expand jaws 12, the means being adapted for operation in stages for moving the pin progressively. A wedge (not shown) may be inserted in stages between the pin and cam between strokes of the arm 5 or, as shown, a pivot pin 6 for the arm 5 may slide in slots 7 in the body 1. For the first stroke of arm 5 the pivot pin 6 is at the top of the slots; for the second it is held at the bottom, Fig. 3 (not shown), by a stirrup 8 engaging a recess 10 in the body, the pin 6 passing through the arms of the stirrup. A spring (14), Fig. 7 (not shown), may bias the stirrup towards the body 1. In a modification, Fig. 6, several recesses 21 are provided for the stirrup. In another form, Fig. 8 (not shown), a stepped wedge (30) is used between a sliding pivot (32) and the body (31).
