A plastics dispensing closure carries in a recess a slide which in one position closes an outflow hole through the closure and in another opens the outflow hole, the initial opening movement of the slide breaking at least one projection extending from the closure. The motion of the slide may be rotary or linear. As shown, a slide 4, Fig. 1, of a hard plastics, has a sharp edge 5 and lies in an undercut groove 3, Fig. 3, across the top of a closure 1. The groove 3 has rails 7 supporting the slide 4, and the closure 1 is of a relatively soft plastics. Initially, a projection 6 on the closure lies against the sharp edge 5 of the slide 4. When the slide 4 is moved rightwards of Fig. 1, the projection 6 is broken-off, and a hole (8), Fig. 2 (not shown), beneath the slide, is uncovered. In one modification, the projection (13), Fig. 5 (not shown), initially closes the hole, moving the slide to break-off the projection opening the hole. In another modification, the projection (25), Fig. 6 (not shown), is on the underside of the slide and initially extends into the hole (23) through the top of the closure. The closure may alternatively be in the form of a panel welded to its container.
