Abstract
1,193,029. Retractive switches. KABELUND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHœTTE A.G. 27 Nov., 1968 [29 Nov., 1967], No. 56313/68. Heading H1N. A contact cable containing conductors adapted to be brought into engagement when a vehicle, for example, compresses the cable, comprises a tubular outer conductor 3 and inner conductors such as 4a, 4b, 4c normally spaced therefrom by being stranded with suitable insulating cords such as 2a, 2b, 2c. Equal numbers of inner conductors and insulating cords are provided. The conductors may be first stranded together and the insulating cords stranded thereon to lie in the outer interstices formed by the conductors (Fig. 1, not shown) or the insulating cords may be first stranded together and the conductors laid thereon to lie in the outer interstices formed by the insulating cords, as shown. In the latter case the conductors are mutually insulated and may provide a plurality of separate signalling circuits in conjunction with the common outer conductor; or a pair of inner conductors may form a circuit by being bridged by the outer conductor, in which case the cable would still function even if the outer conductor is interrupted. The inner conductors may comprise resistance wire to permit accurate location of the point of compression of the cable, or may be semicircular in cross-section to provide good contact with the outer conductor. The insulating cords may contain wires to increase the tensile strength of the cable.
