Abstract
119,286. Ellis, H. Sept. 27, 1917. Fluid governors for steam-engines comprise a ram b adapted to be raised, when the engine races, by the delivery pressure of a pump g<1> driven by the engine. A spring c returns the ram and may be adjusted by nuts d<1>, d<2>. The liquid escapes from the ram chamber b<1> by a pipe i and an adjustable valve j<1>, j<2>. The valve consists of a stationary member j<1> adjustably mounted in the cover of the valve casing, and a valve seat j<2> movable by the pressure liquid against the action of the spring j<3>. The spring may be adjusted by means of the screwed cover j<4>. Normally the valve is open, but when the engine races, the pressure liquid forces the seat j<2> against the valve j<1>. The ram at the top of its stroke opens an escape valve l by means of a tappet r and collar p.
