Abstract

1,191,035. Rolling. SCHLOEMANN A.G. 8 July, 1968 [11 July, 1967], No. 32455/68. Heading B3M. [Also in Division B8] Cooling apparatus for rolled stock includes a cooling bed in which the stock is air-cooled to about 500‹ C. followed by a fluid (or fluidized bed) cooling bed in which the temperature falls to about 100‹ C., the second bed including pairs of toothed bars which rock transversely to the direction of feed of the stock. In one form, Fig. 1, a rack type cooling bed 3 suitable for steel sections F is followed by a cooling tank 10 within which pairs of bars 8a, 8b are located. The bars are vertically reciprocated by arms extending transversely to the feed direction, and can be maintained above the level of the cooling medium. Staggered notches on the adjacent bars of each pair cause the sections to be fed towards output member 16. Several tanks 10 can be arranged in series, each with their own independently driven bars. In a further form, Fig. 5, suitable for billets K, similar pairs of reciprocating bars 78a, 78b are provided in a tank B. The billets are fed from a chain conveyer and feeding arms 79 to the bars and, after cooling, are fed by arms 80 and a shoot 83 to a roller table 84.
