Abstract

1,190,731. Anchor bolts. H. J. MODREY. 1 May, 1967 [1 Feb., 1966], No. 4335/66. Heading F2H. A bolt or fastener comprises a shank 1 with wedge-shaped recesses 5, 6 containing wedgeshaped anchoring means 2, 3 which are retained within the periphery of the shank by temporary fastening means until the shank has been inserted into the required materials. In the embodiment, the wedges 2, 3 are held within recesses 5, 6 by a band of frangible material 4 whilst the bolt is driven into the material to be fastened, the band breaking as the bolt is partially withdrawn to allow the wedges to expand radially thus gripping the material. The band may be replaced by a plastics end cap, where the bolt is self-piercing, or by a temporary adhesive means. The wedges and the band or end cap are provided with gripping projections.
