Abstract

1,189,004. Electromagnetic actuators. METALL-INVENT S.A. 14 June, 1967 [17 June, 1966], No. 27394/67. Heading H1P. [Also in Division G3T] The electromagnet of a clock-winding mechanism has its armature and co-operating pole face shaped for relative rolling motion or progressive abutment. One or both of the surfaces may be curved (Figs. 1 to 3, and 4 to 8, not shown) and toothed (Fig. 7, not shown). As shown in Fig. 3a, a roller 54 on the end of the armature 12 is engaged by the end of a weighted lever 55 to complete the circuit of the electromagnet coil 3 so that the armature 12 is attracted and moves the lever 55 clockwise and the inertia of the lever continues to move it to a stop 62 and the contact between the roller 54 and lever is broken to de-energize the electromagnet so that the armature resets. The lever 55 is biased by a spring 63 and its ratchet 59 engages a wheel 57 to drive a clock train 65 until the lever 55 again engages the roller 54 and the operation is repeated. The armature may be a spring strip 37, 41 of resilient plastics material which includes soft iron particles or (Figs. 13 to 15, not shown) having soft iron pieces mounted thereon.
