Abstract

1,188,003. Dispensing liquids under gaseous pressure. STERWIN A. G. July 3, 1968 [July 4, 1967], No.30706/67. Heading F1R. An actuator assembly for an aerosol dispensing container, e.g. for inhalant, comprises a squeezable housing 11a, 11b receiving the container 1, and an actuator head 8 having a nozzle 6 engaging the container valve stem 3, and having cams 10a, 10b engaged by followers 14a, 14b in the housing, so that squeezing of the housing produces downward movement of head 8 to open the container valve. In the embodiment shown, the housing comprises hinged segments 11a, 11b with overlapping portions 13a, 13b for concealing the container. A protective cap 16 has projections 17 to prevent accidental squeezing of the housing. Air inlet apertures 9 are provided in head 8. In Figs. 5 and 6, (not shown) the housing is made in one piece, e.g. of polypropylene, with two relatively thick segment portions joined at the sides and base by thin membranes which readily fold up when the housing is squeezed. The container valve may be of the type producing a metered quantity. The housing may be translucent or opaque.
