Abstract

1,185,643. Toothed gearing. PAMETRADA. 16 June, 1967 [18 March, 1966; 1 April, 1966; 19 May, 1966], Nos. 12089/66, 14689/66 and 22393/66. Heading F2Q. Contra-rotating propellers 12, 23 for the propulsion of a ship are carried respectively by an outer hollow main shaft 24 and an inner hollow main shaft 22 which are driven through branches of gearing, at least one branch of which consists of planetary gearing or star gearing, and the shafts 24, 22 are individually connected to main thrust bearings 9, 25. As shown in Fig. 1, star gearing comprises an input sun gear 14, gears 15 mounted on fixed axles 16, and an annulus 18 secured to main shaft 22. In a modification, planet gears 73, Fig. 9, are mounted on a planet carrier 71 secured to main shaft 22. In a further modification, an outer hollow main shaft 8, Fig. 11, is driven through planetary gearing 38 . . . 41, the inner main shaft being driven through star gearing. In another modification, both main shafts are driven through planetary gears.
