Abstract

1,185,328. Beds. H. KETTLER [trading as HEINZ KETTLER METALLWARENFABRIK]. 16 May, 1967 [16 May, 1966], No. 22626/67. Heading A4J. [Also in Division E2. In a hinge joint between foldable bed frame sections 3 and 41, having a collapsible leg frame 32, a disc 9 is displaceable, alternatively to lock either section 3 or section 41, with respect to a pair of mounting plates 1. In the folded condition, section 41 and frame 32 lie on opposite sides of section 3 and the section 41 is locked to plates 1 by the disc 9 engaging recess 14. To erect the bed, frame 32 is first swung out to the position shown about pivot 22, connecting it to member 2. Section 41 together with plates 1 are initially moved from a position, in which pivots 10 and 7, carried together with pivot 18 of pawl 17 on the plates 1, overlie pivot 4. During this movement, the members 1 and 41 turn about pivot 4 and disc 9 rides on the periphery 11 of member 2. When section 41 is perpendicular to section 3, the movement of the plates 1 is terminated in the position shown, in which abutment edges 23 secure the leg frame 32 in the erected position and disc 9 is brought opposite recess 13. No further movement of section 41 is possible without releasing pawl 17. This is done by raising lever 30, to relieve the pressure of spring 27, acting downwardly on the tail 17a, by lifting slide 25. Compression spring 28 can then raise slide 26 and turn the pawl 17 about its pivot 18. Rod 29b ensures that a similar arrangement on the opposite side of the bed is operated simultaneously. Release from pawl 17 enables section 41 to be rotated about pivot 7 and the initial rotation shifts disc 9, from one end of slot 8 to the other and into engagement with the recess 13, to lock the section 3 with respect to the plates 1. On releasing lever 30, the pawl 17 is reengaged with teeth 16, at the selected inclination of frame 41, by the action of compression spring 27 and slide 25. The hinge joint is encased and sealed with mating plastics half shells 37, (37a), 38, 38a and 39.
