Abstract

1,184,012. Apparatus for cutting and joining floating hulls. MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO K.K. 13 March, 1968 [10 April, 1967], No 12293/68. Heading B7S. A watertight seal assembly 7 on the exterior underwater surface of a floating structure A comprises a longitudinally extending waterproof wall member 7a of resilient material having a U-shaped transverse section with a pair of longitudinally extending edges 7b at its outer ends wherein a longitudinally extending sealing member 12 is located to contact the underwater surface of the floating structure. The wall member 7a has a plurality of longitudinally spaced transversely arranged ribs 8 fitted within its inner surface and longitudinally extending support members 9 lie in the edges 7b. The ends of the wall member 7a are above the water level and the wall member is secured to the exterior surface of the floating structure in the embodiment shown by support plates 18, cables 20 and wire 17. The wall member can be pumped dry to permit either the cutting of the floating structure into separate sections or, the joining of separate sections into a unitary body.
