Abstract
A life-raft comprises a waterproof canopy (9 in the case of the inflatable life raft shown in Fig. 3) a substantial portion 10 of which is permanently and water-tightly secured along its edge to the periphery of the life-raft, a further portion 13 of the canopy constituting a closure portion having an elasticated edge 16 which can be stretched around a portion of the periphery of the life-raft to provide a watertight joint. The portions 10 and 13 of the canopy are secured to an inflatable arch tube extending transversely of the life-raft and the edge 16 engages the depression 14 formed at the junction of the upper tube and lower tube 3 comprising the buoyancy chamber of the life-raft. Fig. 6 shows a life-raft having a rigid buoyant body 52 of a laminated glass fibre and polyurethane material with a canopy 53 secured to the sides 55 both above and below the line CC, the raft being reversible (one canopy only is shown). The canopy is supported by metal frames 56, 57, 58 and has two closure portions 59, 60 with elastic hems or edges 63, 64 arranged to be stretched and fitted into grooves 65, 66 which extend across the respective ends of the body 52 and for a short distance along its sides 55.
