Abstract
1,183,580. Pipe couplings. UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 29 Aug., 1967 [8 Sept., 1966], No. 40107/66. Heading F2G. A pipe union I adapted to receive pipes 2, 3, which may be of different diameters, includes sealing rings 6, e.g. of copper, which are retained in tapered grooves in the union and are abutted by the ends of the pipes, and nuts 8 screwed on to the union and for drawing each pipe into the respective bore of the union and retaining the pipes with the end faces thereof engaging the rings. As shown, each pipe is formed with a groove 10 for a steel ring 11 the latter being engaged by the internal tapered surface of a collar 9; the ends of the pipes are internally tapered at 12, and each ring 6 is internally tapered and has an axial length smaller than that of the groove.
