[Also in Division C1] Pyrographite envelopes are removed from spent nuclear fuel particles by contacting at 2000‹ C. or above with a gas containing carbon, sulphur (or selenium), and optionally oxygen and then contacting the gas with a substrate, at 1700-3200‹ C. and at 100‹ C. or more below the gas temperature, to deposit the carbon which has been removed.
