Abstract
1,177,786. Rolling. MASCHINENFABRIK SACK G.m.b.H. 8 Feb., 1967, No. 6093/67. Heading B3M. The rolls 1 of a sheet or strip-rolling mill are provided on their roll necks with additional bearings 3 outboard of the main bearings 2, the additional bearings being acted on by forces derived from adjusting screws 8 for the main bearings in order to counteract bending of the rolls under load. Both rolls of a two-high mill, or the backing rolls of a four-high mill, are so arranged. In Fig. 7, a lever 5 transmits force from each screw 8 to the bearing 3 through a link 6, while in Fig. 8 the lever 5 takes the form of a housing which encloses the bearings 2 and 3, eccentric loading causing a bending movement to be produced on the roll neck. Further bearings 4, Fig. 10, may be provided, levers 7 and 5 transmitting force from the screws 8 to the bearings 2-4. In a modified form, the bearings 4 are dispensed with and the levers 5 and 7 are pivoted to a beam which extends parallel to the roll and is movable with the roll.
