Abstract
1,176,453. Ventilating buildings. G. COURCHESNE. 3 July, 1968 [3 Aug., 1967], No. 31768/68. Heading F4V. An intake and exhaust ventilator shown in Fig. 2, comprises a casing 1 divided by a central partition into two passages having openings 3, 4 to a room and a common opening to atmosphere controlled by a damper 9 and centrifugal fans 18, 19, the central partition terminating short of the damper 9 so that in the closed or partially closed positions thereof, all or some of the air drawn through opening 3 is recirculated through opening 4. The ventilator is mounted in a wall or window opening or completely within the room. The damper 9 is formed by pivoted louvres, simultaneously operated by an electric motor or by a rope or chain against the action of a spring. Non-return louvres 13, 14 are included in the two air passages. Each fan is operated by a separate two-speed motor 20, only one of which may be in operation (Figs. 3, 5). In another embodiment shown in Fig. 8, the opening to atmosphere is formed by a lower corner of the casing and is controlled by a single pivoted damper 33, operated by a pivoted arm 49. Fans 36, 37 are driven by a two- or three-speed motor 38. An additional partition 54 may be provided to divide the lower half of a space 53 between a partition 40 and the damper 33, the latter being slotted accordingly. The damper 33 is covered with heat insulating material. Filtering and/or ozone generating means may be provided opposite the intake fan 37. The fans may be thermostatically controlled.
