Abstract
1,175,492. Sodium trimetaphosphate. FMC CORP. 14 Feb., 1968, No. 7209/68. Heading C1A. Sodium metaphosphate is prepared by continuously feeding an aqueous solution of sodium phosphate(s) (Na2O: P2O5 ratio from 0À99 to 1À00) containing from 70-73% wt. of phos. phate, preferably NaH2PO4, at temperatures which are suitably between 100-110‹ C. through an elongated reaction vessel; feeding combustion gases at a temperature between 800-850‹ C. continuously in a countercurrent fashion through the vessel and removing the calcined product at a temperature of 520- 580‹ C. from the reaction vessel, the total residence time being about three hours, twothirds of which represents the time for complete drying and the remainder the calcination period. The process is suitably carried out in a rotary kiln and provides a product containing less than 0À5% wt. of water insolubles.
