Abstract

1,174,866. Nitrogen-containing cross-linked cellulose. NITTO BOSEKI CO. Ltd. 15 June, 1967 [25 June, 1966], No. 27721/67. Heading C3A. [Also in Division D1] Cellulose fibres having a swelling degree in water of more than 70% and preferably an orientation degree less than 40 x 10<SP>-3</SP> and articles made therefrom, e.g. woven or non- woven cloth, are treated with an aqueous solution containing (a) one or more of ammonium sulphate, sulphamate or imidosulphonate and optionally (b) one or more of ammonium phosphates, guanidine phosphate or ammonium aluminium phosphate, and are then baked at 290-350‹ C., e.g. using I-R radiation, to yield a product containing at least 7% by wt. of combined N 2 . The product is stated to be crosslinked. The unbaked fibres preferably contain at least 20% of (a) and at least 0À02% of (b), calculated as dry salt based on the fibre weight. The product is resistant to flame and chemical attack.
