Abstract

1,174,790. Wagons for transporting special loads; undercarriages. YAWATA IRON & STEEL CO. Ltd. 30 Dec., 1966, No. 58337/66. Heading B7L. A railway truck 2, Fig. 3, for carrying a converter 1 or similar container comprises a lower frame 10; hydraulic cylinder and ram devices (6), 7, (8), 9, fastened to the frame 10; an upper frame 5 fitted to the devices 6 to 9, so as to be raisable and lowerable thereby; a converter cradle 3 rotatable on the frame 5 on ball bearings 4; force receiving struts (13), 14, (15), 16 fixed to the lower frame 10; running wheels 18 fitted to a frame 17 rotatable on the frame 10 on ball bearings 12. The struts 13 to 16 are engageable at track intersections by hydraulic cylinder and ram devices 20 arranged below the track rails 19, whereby the complete truck and converter may be lifted from the rails 19 and the wheel frame 17 thereafter rotated into alignment with an intersecting track. The truck is thereafter lowered on to the latter track. In a modification, wheel trucks are separately rotatable on the frame 10 and the bearings 12 omitted.
