Abstract

1,174,354. Coating. ANCIENS ETABS. JALLA. 28 Feb., 1967 [17 March, 1966; 20 Dec., 1966], No. 9364/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C3 and Dl] The loops of a looped pile fabric are stiffened by applying thereto an aqueous suspension of a water emulsifiable thermoplastic resin containing triazine and a water soluble salt of a metal of group II of the Mendeleeff Periodic table of elements and then drying the fabric. The thermoplastic resin may be polymethyl, ethyl or butyl methacrylate or acrylate, a copolymer of ethyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate or polyvinyl acetate, formate, propionate or chloride. The salt of the group II metal may be zinc, beryllium, magnesium or calcium chloride, sulphate, nitrate, perchlorate or chloroacetate. The aqueous suspension may also contain a finishing resin e.g. a polyether of ethylene glycol, a polyoxy ethylene compound or a diester of a condensation product of formaldehyde with ethylene glycol such as diglycol formal diacetate, and a thickening agent, e.g. a urea-formaldehyde condensation product or polyvinyl alcohol. The aqueous suspension may be applied to the looped pile fabric by coating, spraying or impregnation and the fabric dried at from room temperature to 200‹C. The looped pile fabric which may be a towel, face-cloth, gloves, dishcloth, floor cloth, rug, carpet or conveyor belt and may be made from cotton, linen, wool, silk or nylon, may be treated on one or both faces over the entire surface area or only to selected portions of the surface.
