Abstract

In a die-casting machine for producing axially extended articles necessitating a greater opening and closing movement of the die parts 15, 29, the moving die part 29 is moved in two stages by a toggle closing means 34 and a cylinder closing means 41. The machine comprises a fixed front plate 13 supporting the fixed die part 15, an adjustably positioned backplate 21 connected to the front plate 13 by rods 23, an auxiliary plate 31 slidable on the rods 23 and tracks 12 by the toggle closing means 34 and a sliding plate 25 on which the moving die part 29 is mounted and which also slides on the rods 23 and tracks 12. In a closing operation the cylinder closing means 41 is first operated to move the sliding plate 25 away from the auxiliary plate 31 whereupon compression blocks are moved by cylinders 45 between the two plates to carry the pressure forces of the die-casting operation. Then the toggle closing means 34 is operated by a cylinder 35. The machine includes an hydraulic shot cylinder 18 and a shot sleeve 19 for feeding molten metal to the closed die. The machine may be used in connection with submergedplunger type of feed but is more particularly used in connection with cold-chamber injection feed.
