Abstract

1,172,570. Carding engines. TOYODA AUTOMATIC LOOM WORKS Ltd. and TOYOTA CENTRAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT LABORATORIES Inc. 28 Sept., 1967 [12 Oct., 1966], No. 44295/67. Heading DIN. A carding engine has its main cylinder 1 and its lickerin 3 diameters and speeds arranged to maintain a low density of fibres on the main cylinder and to cause a high weight percentage of trash in the lickerin fly waste. Accordingly, the main cylinder has a diameter of not less than 400 mm, a surface speed of 21 m/sec, and a centrifugal acceleration of more than 75G, while the lickerin has a diameter of not less than 150 mm, a surface speed of less than 13 m/sec and a centrifugal acceleration of more than 150G. The cylinder is preferably clothed with wires having an acting tooth angle of 78 to 83‹ and a tooth height ranging from 0.8 to 1.5 mm. A doffer 2 is clothed with wires having an acting angle from 50 to 65‹ and tooth height ranging from 2.0 to 4.0 mm. In addition to revolving flats 12 partially covering the cylinder surface, a set of stationary flats 13, 14 equipped with wires is positioned between the lickerin and the revolving flats. An adjustably positioned screen 6 is provided under the lickerin.
