Abstract

1,171,529. Sliver cans. S. NOTON Ltd. 28 June, 1968 [18 May, 1967], No. 23255/67. Heading D1F. A sliver can includes a sliver-receiving platform 12 supported above a base 1 by a compression spring 14, the platform 12‹ being mounted on a sleeve 6 slidable on a fixed central shaft 5 which is shorter than the height of the can and which extends from the base 1 and is rigid therewith. In a preferred embodiment the platform 12 is secured to a further sleeve 10 slidably mounted on the first sleeve 6 and biassed towards the upper end of the sleeve 6 by a compression spring 8 extending between flanges 7 and 9 on the sleeves. An abutment 11 is provided on the sleeve 6 to limit movement of the sleeve 10. The extent of travel of the sleeve 6 is itself limited by a strap 16 secured to the flange 7 and a base socket 3 for the central shaft 5. The platform 12 is secured to the flange 9 of the second sleeve 10. As the weight of sliver on the platform 12 increases the sleeves 10 and 6 slide down the shaft 5 until the sleeve 6 abuts the base 1 and then the sleeve 10 continues down against the action of the compression spring 8, the upper part of the can being uninterrupted. Withdrawal of sliver from the can reverses the procedure.
