Abstract

1,171,439. Endotracheal tubes. J. A: MILLET PUIG. 21 March, 1968 [10 April, 1967], No. 13797/68. Heading A5R. An endotracheal tube comprises a tubular member 4 open at both ends, an inflatable bag 12 surrounding an intermediate portion 5 of said tubular member close to one of its ends 4', the opposite ends of the bag being sealed to the tubular member so that the bag defines a first inner chamber 14 therewith, a cuff 6 surrounding at least a portion of the bag the opposite ends 7, 8 of the cuff being sealed to two spaced-apart zones on the bag or tubular member so as to define a second outer chamber 13 between the cuff and bag, the chambers being isolated one from the other, at least one opening 11 in the intermediate portion connecting the inner chamber with the tubular member, and an additional air injecting tube 9 connected to the cuff and communicating with the outer chamber. As shown in Fig. 1, the intermediate portion may have two elongated openings 11 and the edges 7, 8 of the opposite ends of the cuff may be joined to the edges of the opposite ends of the bag forming reinforced edges sealed to the intermediate portion of the tubular member.
