Abstract

1,171,362. Warheads. BOLKOW G.m.b.H., and F. R. THOMANEK. 16 June, 1967 [30 June, 1966], No. 27968/67. Heading F3A. A warhead primarily for roll-stabilized guided missiles, comprises a thin housing 1, e.g. of sheet metal or synthetic plastics containing a detonator 4 and a hollow explosive charge 5 surrounded by a fragmentation casing 7. The casing 7 comprises either a cohesive fragmentation casing or pre-shaped elements, e.g. balls or discs arranged in two zones to either side of the charge with the intermediate zones filled with a material of low specific gravity or with bodies containing incendiary or smoke generating compounds. The incendiary bodies may be spherical or elongated, or in the form of cylindrical rods and may comprise tubular magnesium housings filled with phosphorous mixtures or compounds similar to thermite. The fragments 7 and incendiary bodies may be embedded in a synthetic resin. In other embodiments the charge 5 is provided with annular protuberances (5a, Figs. 5-7, not shown) of various cross-sectional shapes, covered with fragments 7.
