Abstract

1,171,022. Two-part couplings; couplings. A. FREY. 9 Jan., 1967 [10 Jan., 1966], No. 1085/67. Heading H2E. An electrical connection comprises a helical coil 2 of spring material of circular cross-section into which a rigid cylindrical pin 1 is inserted, the coil being compressed on coupling, so increasing its diameter sufficiently to receive the pin which is gripped by the coil on its recovery. The coil is mounted in an insulating base 4, and the connection may be made detachable by providing a cover 8 against which the coil is compressed to enable removal of the pin. The cover 8 may be movable, only in its lowest position allowing removal of the pin, or it may be fixed to the base 4. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) two rigid pins (9, 10) are non-releasably connected by a single helical coil (11). The contacts may be of a precious metal or a precious metal alloy, or alternatively may be of bronze or steel coated with precious metal.
