Abstract

1,170,995. Making panties. GOUJON (PAPER TOGS) Ltd. 22 April, 1968 [25 April, 1967; 21 Sept., 1967; 2 April, 1968], Nos. 19001/67, 42995/67 and 15806/68. Heading A3V. Panties are made from a material of which the whole or a major portion is a non-woven bonded fibre material comprising 80 per cent by weight viscose rayon fibre (freferably of 7/16 inch staple) and 20 per cent by weight acrylic adhesives. A pantie is made by cutting from a sheet a blank 1 which may include a gusset portion 2 which can be folded on to a glued portion 3, then joining the edges 3, 4 and 7, 8, Fig. la, of the blank to form leg spaces 9, 10, elasticating the two sides 5 and 6 which form the waistband and elasticating the edges of the leg spaces. An apparatus, Fig 5, for forming the panties comprises a conveyer belt on to which the blanks are fed and on which they are held by suction and passed to a first glueing gun 12 to glue the portions 3 after which the gussets 2 are lifted over by air pressure 13 and pressed on to the parts 3 by heated rollers 14. A second glueing gun 15 glues parts 3 and 7 of the top of each blank which are folded over member Is by air pressure and the edges 3, 4 and 7, 8 are joined by a heated roller 17. The blank is then passed to a container for further processing by stitching and elasticating.
