Abstract

896,347. Carrier bags. HONSEL, C. June 25, 1959 [June 25, 1958; Dec. 20, 1958], No. 21836/59. Classes 94(1) and 133. A blank 10 cut from a web 1 with folded edges 4, 7 is provided with handles or carrying loops 11, then formed into a flat tube by folding transversely at 13, folded transversely again and glued at 15. A pleated or block bottom is then formed by passing the bag through the apparatus shown in Fig. 9. The web 2 is drawn from a paper roll 1 and one edge 4 folded over on to glue strip 3, a gluing fold 8 being made in the opposite edge which is folded in to form bottom surface 7 after which the fold 8 is again folded and treated with glue 9, the blank 10 being then severed from the web. Handles 11 with cover sheets 12 are next applied, the blank is folded along centre line 13 and its free side edges stuck together. The blank W is now passed by cylinder 16 to a grooving cylinder 18 being moved forward by pairs of engaging conveyer chains, so that oblique grooves are formed at both ends of the bottom; next it is passed through flattening device 24 followed by suction devices which draw up the side 7a of the bottom. Corner dent withdrawing devices 26, 27 then enter the triangular pockets 34a, 35a and flatten them, after which pressing device 28 presses them. The completed bag, Fig. 7, is then passed to the discharge position 32 by a finger in discharge cylinder 31. Instead of the handles 11 hand holes may be punched out of the bag.
